Langtang Valley Gosaikunda, Helambu Trek - 18 Days

Langtang Valley Gosaikunda, Helambu Trek – 18 Days

Langtang Gosaikunda trekking covers a large area in the Langtang region. Langtang is a beautiful alpine valley that lies in the north central Nepal; surrounded by superb snow capped mountains and wonderful culture and ethnic people mainly from Buddhist origin.

Langtang Gosaikunda trekking (also called Langtang circuit trek) is a wonderful opportunity to explore beautiful cultural villages, ancient Buddhist monasteries, Gompas, stunning mountain peaks, high altitude Yak pastures, wildlife, flora & fauna and above them all the Holy ‘Gosaikunda’ lake. This sacred Lake situated at an elevation of 4380 meters and main source of famous Trishuli River.

The history of Lake Gosaikunda is associated with great god lord Shiva. It is believed to have originated by digging the hill by Trishul (the sword) of Lord Shiva after he drank poison and desperately needed to drink cold water & douse the heat of the poison. Ever since lord Shiva got cold water by digging the hill, the water has continuously flowed to this day. Gosaikunda Lake is also a very popular pilgrimage site for both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. Every year huge full moon festivals take place around Gosaikunda in August. There are several other similar lakes scattered around the area.

Leaving Gosaikunda and crossing the highest point of the trek Lauribina La pass (4610 m.) we continue our journey towards Gopte, Tharepati, Gul Bhanjyang, Chisapani and Kathmandu with great memories of Himalayan panoramas and cultural experiences. We can truly say this is a rewarding journey through the Langtang region.
